If all the pensioners and X-pats are CORRECT and it is the best financial decision to move to a lower priced Country that is nice and beautiful an not as many problems as the west and where you can live like a KING because your USD that is SO SO SO high allows that to happen. What happens since you R right and the USA is not good and the USD is Devalued by 75% and the it takes 15-25 PESO to each USD will they still live like a king. I think the USD could be devalued by 50-75% withing 2 years so if this happens will all the X-pat with their USD still live like a king?

1.) Brownouts 2.) Water Disruptions 3.) Most restaurants suck-over cooked/salted food. 4.) Loud Karaoke late into the night. 5.) Boring Lifestyles 6.) Burning trash and dried shrubs daily. 7.) Diesel burning vehicles. 8.) Poor infrastructure. 8.) Chaotic driving. 9.) Poor Medical facilities and care. 10.) Mosquitoes and Dengue Fever. 11.) Foreigners can't own property. 12.) Weather is hot, humid, and typhoons to worry about. 13.) Lots of scams. 14.) Family members always want a "loan." 15.) If the $ runs out, 90% of the girls will leave you. 16.) Waiting in line for everything. 17.) Must use cash for most transactions. 18.) Always hear, " Sorry Sir, out of stock. 19.) Archatic banking. 20.) Visa rules suck. 21.) Dogs that bark 24/7. 22.) Legal system is not in favor of the foreigner. 23.) I could easily write another 77 things, but you get the point. Much better in Hoi An, Vietnam.

Filipinas cheat especially when you bring them to the west. If you are going to marry one, live with her for at least a year first and then see how your feel. If you still want to marry her after that, then do it. She cannot hide things that long. Do NOT bring her to the west especially if you have an age gap of more than 10 years. Instead, move to the Philippines.

Joined another group with 18 foreigners and after 10 years there was only 3 left. Its not easy at all here, you have to graft.

I loved the place when I was there 2 times on deployment. My biggest problem? I can't bring myself to live on a pimple on the ocean's ass. I google earthed Olongapo. Every Marine that's been there remembers what it was like. A tsunami literally flushed the toilet on that island. You should see it now. It has regular stores and houses, the strip doesn't look like it exists anymore.

Then went to the Philippines and lived like a bigshot untill he ran out of what cash he had. He obviously did not prepair or budget. When he realized he was running out of cash and could not access any of his "hundreds of thousand dollars" why didnt he fly back to the U.S. and straighten things out? And now he is working a disability angle? Yeah sure.

You have to be right for that life. I grew up in Indiana, lived for a few years in the Keys and everything was great for me. Now it's too expensive for an option but the Philippines will be like stepping back to that time. And with well planned funds & smart budgeting, passive income I'm sure it will work;. I don't plan to be alone but I'm not desperate for everything that comes my way either.

Most of the issues that you mentioned that expats are having are due to poor, bad, or no planning. Bad decision making is also another major factor. Most only see the pros of living there and totally ignore the cons….ignore the cons until they can’t ignore them that is. I’m early 50s and could be retired like a lot of guys my age or even younger, but I don’t want to rush it and leave myself vulnerable in case of a problem. My girlfriend of 15 years is a dual Philippine/American citizen so she already owns land that we’re building on. We’re working on building our retirement incomes both here in the states and in the Philippines. Once we retire (probably 7-8 years now due to moving states for work) we’ll have multiple sources of income and we’ll be prepared for almost anything. Some don’t realize that the Philippines has zero services for the hungry and homeless and they aren’t required to treat you in the hospital if you can’t pay. What we don’t want is to not be prepared, have an issue, and then have to try to re-establish ourselves back in the states and go back to work.

So why would ageing foreigners go to the Philippines if they can't get health insurance and can't afford health insurance??? This doesn't sound correct to me, my friend! Why do I hear that there are so many ageing foreigners in the Philippines, living the life, if they can't get health insurance??? I'd have to disagree that ageing foreigners can't get health insurance and can't afford health insurance in the Philippines!!

You CAN get health insurance,…getting affordable healthcare insurance when you’re older is the problem, it’s very expensive. When you’re 70-75, many companies won’t offer any insurance cover at all.

If you're chronically ill or if that is a major concern, stay where you are. Not really a time of life to move anywhere else. Except for immediate emergency care, research places you can travel to for better healthcare options, where they might even accept medicare (some get care in Guam, even Thailand). As an alternative to potentially crappy and expensive healthcare insurance, consider a health savings account for emergency care. Also, if not sick yet, take better care of yourself. Eat right, quit smoking/drinking, and exercise regularly. Learn first aid, and have your spouse learn CPR. Life is all about risk, and the best we can do is minimize it.
